Shoulder Conditions

Strong Shoulders, Strong You

Understanding Shoulder Conditions

Your shoulders give you the freedom to reach, lift, and move with ease but when something goes wrong, even simple tasks like combing your hair or reaching for a cup can feel impossible. Shoulder problems can develop from overuse, injury, or natural wear and tear, and they often get worse if left untreated. Early diagnosis and proper care can make a big difference in restoring your mobility and comfort.

  • Pain, stiffness, or weakness in the shoulder joint

  • Discomfort that limits your arm movement or daily activities

When Should You See a Specialist?

(01)

Persistent Shoulder Pain

  • Pain lasting more than a few days that doesn’t improve with rest.

(02)

Limited Range of Motion

  • Difficulty lifting your arm, rotating it, or reaching overhead.

(03)

Weakness or Instability

  • A feeling that your shoulder could slip out of place or can’t support weight.

(04)

Night Pain

  • Shoulder pain that disrupts your sleep or worsens when lying on your side.

(05)

Post-Injury Symptoms

  • Pain, swelling, or weakness after a fall, accident, or sports injury.

(06)

Clicking, Popping, or Grinding

  • Unusual sensations or sounds in the joint during movement.

Common Shoulder Conditions We Treat

Rotator Cuff Tear

A rotator cuff tear occurs when one or more of the tendons in the shoulder are damaged, as a result of an acute injury, chronic overuse, or aging. The individual may experience shoulder pain, weakness, or limitation with arm lifting. If left untreated, the condition may progress to permanently disabling shoulder weakness and stiffness.

Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)

Adhesive capsulitis is characterized by the progressive stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint due to inflammation and scarring of the shoulder capsule. The progressive nature of the condition can make basic activities exceedingly challenging, like reaching over one’s head or behind one’s back.

Shoulder Impingement

The injury is clinically described as a Glenohumeral dislocation or Shoulder dislocation, where the humerus comes out of the glenoid cavity. The dislocated shoulder joint can be caused by trauma, sports, or a fall. Symptoms include acute pain, swelling, weakness, and with inappropriate treatment can lead to frequent dislocations and chronic shoulder joint instability.

Dislocated Shoulder

A shoulder dislocation happens when the upper arm bone pops out of its socket, often due to trauma, sports injuries, or falls. It causes intense pain, swelling, and weakness, and if not managed properly, can lead to repeated dislocations and long-term instability.

Shoulder Arthritis

Shoulder arthritis occurs when the cartilage covering the bones in the shoulder joint wears down, leading to pain, swelling, and reduced range of motion. It can develop from aging, injury, or other joint diseases, and can significantly impact everyday movements.

Bursitis of the Shoulder

Shoulder bursitis is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that cushion the joint. This can cause sharp or aching pain, especially with overhead activities, and may develop from repetitive movements, injuries, or underlying shoulder conditions.

Common SHOULDER CONDITIONS We Treat

ROTATOR CUFF TEAR

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize your shoulder. Tears whether from injury or gradual wear can cause pain, weakness, and trouble lifting your arm.

FROZEN SHOULDER (Adhesive Capsulitis)

A condition where the shoulder joint becomes stiff and painful due to thickening of its capsule. Movement gradually becomes restricted, often over months.

SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT

Occurs when shoulder tendons are pinched between bones, leading to pain when lifting your arm and possible swelling in the joint.

DISLOCATED SHOULDER

When the upper arm bone pops out of its socket, it causes sudden pain, deformity, and loss of function. Often results from falls or sports injuries.

SHOULDER ARTHRITIS

The protective cartilage in the shoulder wears down, leading to stiffness, swelling, and persistent pain. Movement may become increasingly difficult.

BURSITIS OF THE SHOULDER

The labrum is a rim of cartilage that helps stabilize the shoulder. Tears can cause pain, catching, or a sense of instability.
